Looking to transfer credit as a current or non-UMN student or as part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum? These resources will point you in the right direction.

Transferring Credit as a Current U of M Student

While it is possible to take an online course offered by another U of M campus, the credits may not count if you are near graduation, the course doesn't apply to your major, or if you have transferred several credits from a different institution. Consult with your advisor prior to registering to ensure the course meets your general education and/or major requirements.

It also is recommended that you consult with your Financial Aid office prior to completing the required Multi-institution Enrollment Application and having it processed by your home campus. This form must be completed each semester you choose to take a course offered by another U of M campus. If you are taking online credit courses from more than one U of M campus, complete a separate form for each campus.

Minnesota Transfer Curriculum

You may take U of M online courses to satisfy the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC), a collaborative effort of the state’s two- and four-year public colleges and universities to help students transfer their general education work.

Completion of a defined transfer curriculum at one institution enables a student to receive credit for the work after being admitted to a participating institution. The transfer curriculum consists of ten areas of competency. To complete the curriculum, you must earn a minimum of 40 credits and meet the requirements in each of the goal areas. Learn more about the specific requirements of the following U of M campuses: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester, and Twin Cities.

Transferring Credits as a Non-U of M Student

To determine whether credits for a U of M online course may be transferred to a program outside the U of M, contact the institution to which you would like to transfer the credits.

If you have earned credits at a different institution and would like to know if those credits may be transfer to a U of M online program, contact the U of M department that administers that program.
